Gifts for People Who Love Hats

Buying hats for other people can be daunting. Not only do you need to know their size but you also have to know their taste incredibly well. Luckily we know hats incredibly well and are here to help. Let's tackle the two big questions, size and style first.

 SIZE:

  • if you’re local we can help you get just the right fit. All you need to do is bring in any hat of theirs that’s isn’t flexfit or stretchy (in other words, not a beanie) - a baseball cap is fine -and we can measure it with our handy dandy hat ruler. This way we can get an accurate measurement of the size they like to wear.
  • Or, if they are one of our customers, we can check their purchase history to see what size they usually choose. Easy peasy.

STYLE:

  • If they’re one of our customers we can check their purchase history to see what kind of hats they usually choose for themself and make suggestions.
  • You can check the kinds of hats they already have.
    • If they’re a cap person, check our Guide to Cap Shapes to match up shapes with names.
    • If they’re a brimmed hat person, there are two key questions to answer: do they like wide brims or narrow brims? And do they prefer a pork pie, diamond crown, center crease, or teardrop crown?
  • Think about what kinds of colors they like. We think about colors in three categories – grey tones, earth tones, and brights.

When in doubt, we recommend choosing from our collection of Best Sellers. These easy-to-wear styles are crowd pleasers year after year. We choose them for quality, color range, and comfort.

  • Our top budget-friendly choice is the 2-Way Beanie from Kangol. Like the name suggests, this soft beanie can be worn as a skull cap or slouch beanie and comes in a wide range of colors from classic black to the outstanding electric kumaquat.
  • Our top cap recommendation is Bailey's Penner. While this hat is new this season, the shape is a perpetual best seller for us. We love this slightly textured version, especially in the tan check.
  • Our number one go-to hat is Bailey’s Blixen in basalt. Since the day we opened, Blixen and it's sister hat with a narrower brim Tino, have been the hat we turn to again and again. Basalt is an ideal color because it can be worn with greyscale and black or earth tones, providing maximum versatility.
  • Our favorite classic hat is the Stetson Stratoliner. This style has been in continuous production since the 1940s. It has clean lines and is equally at home with work wear or a suit.
  • Our favorite luxe option is Garbo. The feel of this hat cannot be beat. The hand is soft and luscious, with just the right amount of structure. It's understated but the kind of hat that people know instinctively is a good hat.
